IMEI COMMUNITY (IMEIC) is a Global Society for Mobile Phone Owners for serving their interests and it is run and managed by INTENT TECHNOLOGIES LTD. IMEI is International Mobile Station Equipment Identity that uniquely identifies any Mobile phone. The main two objectives of establishing IMEIC is combating phone theft and use of fake phones in the world. Also there are other items which have universal unique identification or serial numbers like Laptop, Motorcycles/Scooters, and Cars etc. that get stolen and smuggled across the world which are also considered in this community (IMEIC). Members of IMEIC will be able to register their properties’ unique identification numbers in database and once the property get lost or stolen will be reported by the owner and be updated in the database as lost or stolen property. Anyone anywhere in the world will be able to query and know the status of the property and therefore increase the chances of the property being recovered back to the owner. This will also discourage property theft as before buying any item whatsoever with unique identification number, someone will have to confirm if it is a lost or stolen item by querying in the database. Not only property theft but also combating use of fake properties which is also a Global challenge.
With regard to mobile phones there are other many issues and challenges to share experience or discuss and get solutions among members. Some of such issues are; knowing rights of phone owner against manufacture, rights of phone owner against seller, rights of phone owner against MNO/Career, Electronic phone waste (e-Waste), recycling and environmental care, What initiatives are MNOs/Careers and communication Regulatories putting in place to publicize blacklisted phones and phone IMEI maneuvering culprits? Is there any global law and law enforcers for such culprits? Is IMEI block/phone barring/Blacklist by MNO/Career the only best solution to combat fake phone or phone theft? If IMEI can be maneuvered, what if Wi-Fi and Bluetooth MAC addresses be used to counter check unique identify for smartphones and other device serial number to countercheck feature phones? What is the percentage of stolen and reported phones against all stolen phones? What is the percentage of whitelisted phones against blacklisted phone under stolen category? Can we quantify personal and global financial loss and corresponding effects of all lost and permanent blacklisted phone under stolen category? What could be personal and global financial gain if all stolen phones could be recovered back to owners before they buy other ones for replacement? When there are duplicate IMEIs, what criteria does MNO/Career use to lock/block them all? As one might be genuine and the other fake. These are just few issues and challenges. All members of IMEIC are recognized first by IMEI number then personal authorized ID. Like any other society, IMEIC members interact and socialize in day to day activities like getting news and entertainments, seek jobs and career, sell and buy, study in schools/Universities etc.
