We have to master traffic and build an audience

Too many people find themselves in a situation where they are laid off and need income, so they jump online trying to make enough money to pay their bills.

They may take some money they had set aside and invest into a program and try to run ads for it, and maybe do make a few sales, but not enough to live on, and then run out of money and quit working online altogether.

It isn't a good situation to be in. I've been there at times is why I am describing it this way. It's supposed to work to have a good landing page and run solo ads or social media ads, people opt in, they buy quickly, and then you have online income coming in.

That's the theory. It's a hit and miss strategy and it can become frustrating when it doesn't work and leave you in a financial bind.

What actually needs to happen is the opposite of what you hear most people say. We need to develop the traffic first, in the form of a receptive audience, and build a certain level of trust with that audience.

Then, we can research an offer and introduce it to our audience and our results will be much better and be sustainable. We are also, hopefully, guiding our audience, basically an email list, to build their own audience.

Video marketing on youtube and vimeo is something that keeps being brought up from nearly everybody I follow and listen to. The reason it is typically being pushed is because your list, your audience needs to know who you are.

For real.

Now, am I completely comfortable making videos? No.

Have I made them before? Yes. Did I delete many of what I made before? Yes.

You may have had the same experience. You made some videos and didn't like the video so you deleted them.

This is what I have learned about that. We have to keep making these videos and edit them or make them again as many times as we need to until we gain confidence in ourselves. It's a mental thing.

It's mostly about mindset.

We have to be willing to go through the time period of not making great videos so we get to where we do make great videos. We can always plan better, learn from those making great videos and increase our skills.

That's really the point of this article. The skillset of mastering traffic and building an email list is what actually pays down the line.

You don't just want the people who invest in a program with you to invest today and be gone tomorrow. You want them to stay on your list, carry on a dialogue about the program and how it's working for them, and maintain a business relationship with them.

We want to have long term people on our list. We want to be able to add a steady flow of long term people on our list also. We want to learn to attract these people to us through our videos and then hopefully earn their trust.

As we build this type of list of people and develop the long term business partnerships with them, we build a long term sustainable income that goes with us into retirement.

As you write emails and content, links to programs can be at the bottom of the content, like they are here and on the bottom of my emails. The first thing that needs to happen, though, is providing value to the readers.

We always have to lead with valuable information.
