Should You Go Wide or Deep in MLM?

Should you go wide (personally sponsored) or should you go deep (depth) in your MLM Team? Let me begin by telling you that width gives you immediate profitability in your business and depth gives you long-term security.

If I had to choose between the two I would choose DEPTH every single time. Depth is what gives you the long-term security and walk away income in our industry.

If your organization is only one to three levels deep, you will never have long-term residual income in your business, because you will fight constant attrition. You will constantly be adding and replacing people.

The true leaders and top earners in our industry typically have 3-5 legs (lines) in their group that are 50, 100, even 200 levels deep. Each leg has several good leaders, which gives the distributor long-term security and profitability.

In order to build depth, you’re going to have to build your width first. You’re going to have to sponsor a lot of people to find your three to five leaders. In most cases, you’ll have to sponsor 50 to 100 (or more) people to find these leaders.

When you find someone who really wants to do the business and is willing to do the work, you want to shift your efforts and help them build a team. Help them sponsor a few people and then pick one of those new people and help them do the same thing.

Keep repeating this process over and over in each leg of your organization and never stop. Do that in a few legs of your group and you will have an enormous team that provides you a walk-away income.

Finding Quality Leaders in Depth

In most cases, the best leaders in your organization will come in depth! The odds of you personally sponsoring your best people are very slim.

Think about it this way for a moment. Let’s suppose you have personally sponsored 50 people and your group has 500 people in it. In this example, there are 9 to 1 odds that your best people are not your personally sponsored people (450/50). Does that make sense?

Your goal when you meet someone is to get into their sphere of influence as quickly as possible. As my mentor says, “make a friend and meet their friends.” Let people lead you to other people. People are either leaders, potential leaders, or doorways to other leaders!

Final Thoughts

When you first start your business, you need to sponsor as many people as possible as quickly as possible, until you find your five serious people. Once you do that, you should spend MOST of your time tap-rooting each leg on your team and building depth.

Remember, width is for show but depth is for dough! The deeper your organization, the more secure it is.
