How to Create Marketing Word Lists
Successful marketing requires that you use words in some form... spoken or written or both. I have compiled a couple dozen different words lists for different marketing uses, and I keep each list handy on a 3" x 5" card. The stack of cards sits on my desk, and I use one or more of the cards almost every day. Believe me, these words are magic. They sure make my life easier.
Let's say you want to create a word list for the subject of "marketing". The first thing to do, (since Google has shut down their widely popular "Google Keyword External Tool" for public use some time ago) is go to Joe Hall's list of 12 Free! Search Tools at: https://www.internetmarketingninjas.com/blog/search-engine-optimization/12-free-keyword-tools-replace-googles-keyword-tool/.
Type the word "marketing" into the search box and click to search. The results are maybe 200 listings of different terms. Write down some of these words that you think are strongly associated with "marketing." As I go, I put them in alphabetical order, which makes it easier to avoid duplication. Some of the words are similar, some are very different. Some seem to have almost no connection to marketing... except the connection is there, deep down in the far recesses of your own brain. That's why you put that word on the list.
I usually wind up with 30 or 40 words using the Joe's list of search tools. But I want 120-150 words for my list. So I then search "marketing" in regular Google... and start reading the paragraphs on the websites that come up. Some articles are long, some are short, but in almost all of them, you'll run into more words that you think are closely associated with "marketing."
These get added to your list. The end result is a list of what I call marketing "theme" words. You'll find opportunities to use these words again and again and again as you work.
