Experimentation vs. Integration

I really got to thinking this evening when I was watching a documentary on TV called “Initiation: With Matias De Stefano” on the Gaia Channel. It was fascinating!

Matias was talking about how we as humans see everything in our environment as disconnected, in a state of chaos. I was thinking, “Yes, like now during the coronavirus pandemic, all over the world!” He said we have all kinds of things around us, in our environment...objects, things, feelings, ideas randomly floating around us. We reach out trying to put everything in order but don’t know how. So we start experimenting, putting things into a certain order, and see how it works. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t.

I thought, “Wow! It sounds like life.” I remember when I was a kid...I was very curious. I used to play outside on the mission all day. The mission was like a mini-universe with everything fascinating in it. I would go exploring and find all kinds of interesting things, like glistening rocks I would call “precious gems”. I would find glistening tadpoles in the creek, and white shiny sand on the sandbars. Even flying a kite was amazing because it would fly so high, no matter how hard I tugged, it would soar out of my field of vision until it disappeared...I wondered where it went?

One thing I did that was very silly was turn the mango tree leaves into a steep, long slippery slide. My brother and I would go flying down the slippery mango leaves so fast that we would do a somersault when we hit the ground! We jumped from one tree branch to another to see if we could fly like “Tarzan and Jane”. I would imagine I was invisible like my “imaginary friend”, to catch the fireflies at dusk before they couldn’t see “us”.

I would say my whole childhood was full of experimentation. On my 9th birthday, I had a huge revelation! I felt deep down that I could understand everything and that everything made sense. I didn’t know that I didn’t know everything.

I’m not sure how many times I have felt “integration” in my life...probably many times. I feel that “integration” is a process. What is integration? It is the moment when we are experimenting that everything “comes together”. Perhaps, it is the “answer” to an algebra “problem”. Integration could be the “answer” to any problem, like a life problem. Integration is when all the different “parts” become a “whole”. Integration is a sense of satisfaction after a busy day at work when an assignment is finally completed. Integration is when an artist is randomly throwing color on a canvas and suddenly, the picture comes alive! Integration is when a business owner is doing a project that seems impossible, and finally has a breakthrough.

I would like to find out from you what kind of “experimentation” you have done in your life. But what I would like to know more, is how many times you have experienced “integration” within yourself and in your outside world, during your creative processes, work projects, and business ventures. Let’s talk about it! Would you like that too? If so, let’s get together and talk sometime...obviously I like to do that!
