New Monopoly Games Emerge With Twist of Socialism, Feminism, Cheating

The era of political correctness lingers as evidenced by Hasboro's newest version of the iconic Monopoly game.  The new version is Ms. Monopoly.  The game is likely to get tremendous support from women as they are given special treatment.  Women will receive $240 when they pass "go", but men will receive $200.  Women will receive $1900 at the beginning of the game, whereas men will receive standard $1500.  The slogan of the game reads "The first game where women make more than men."

Wait! It gets better. Players will be investing inventions pioneered by women instead of traditional properties and charging rent.  Is Hasboro making political statement or going along with current trend?

The company says that the new game is reflection of female empowerment acknowledging that in the game everybody gets a turn but it just so happens women get an advantage at the start.

EARN BIGLY WITH REAL LIFE MONOPOLY

The recent rollout of Ms. Monopoly comes after the launches of two other recent spinoffs, Monopoly: Socialism and Monopoly for Millennials.

The Monopoly game has rules and yet players would be victimized by unscrupulous players.  Over time either you discarded those players as friends or you strayed from the game.  However, newest version of the game, Monopoly: Cheater's Edition encourages extreme behavior of the player thus rewarding unethical behavior.

The Cheater's addition has five "cheat cards" designed to encourage players to undermine each other through deceptive tricks- adding hotels without paying, stealing currency, etc.  It appears that Hasboro concluded based on its research that most players attempt to cheat during the games.  So why not have a game that actually encourages cheating.

Then there is Monopoly Socialism where players mover around the board working together to make a better community.  Interestingly, the game's deion reads, "You'll have issues with your neighbors, your DIY community projects go awry, you're constantly voting to shake things up, and there's always an emergency that requires dipping into the Community Fund!"

Commercial Alert, a nonprofit organization formed to prevent commercialism from exploiting children, is charging that Hasbro is toying with children's health by featuring McDonald's, Starbucks and other branded tokens in the game.  Hasbro claims that the company updated the games to reflect things consumers would find in America today.

EARN BIGLY WITH REAL LIFE MONOPOLY

The original Monopoly game was based on Atlantic City, New Jersey by Charles Darrow in 1933.  It was first manufactured and sold in 1935 by Parker Brothers in the United States.

Perhaps Hasboro is right, they are developing games to resemble today.  The people's values have changed.
