Do You Find or Develop MLM Leaders?

Do you find or develop MLM leaders? This is a common topic in MLM discussions. I figured I would take a moment and share my thoughts on the subject.

I personally believe that it’s a lot easier and faster to find leaders than develop them. I believe that only a small percentage of the population has already developed their leadership skills, so when they join our industry, leadership is natural to them. This represents no more than 3% of the population, if that.

I don’t believe that anyone is born a leader, but I do believe that anyone can become a leader with the right training, mentorship, and the desire to do so. Most leaders became leaders because they had the desire to lead others and develop their potential. Other leaders were fortunate to work with great leaders, who inspired them to become a leader as well (that’s what happened to me).

Your goal as the upline leader is to do three major things. Your first objective is to look for prospects with leadership qualities. Look for people who others follow and look up to. These people have INFLUENCE, which is the key attribute of a leader. Sponsoring just one or two of these people will allow you to build a huge organization.

The occupations I focus on are civic leaders, church leaders, coaches, teachers, entrepreneurs, and professionals. I also look for people with PROVEN network marketing leadership experience.

Your second goal is to identify people already on your team who are leaders. These are the people you want to spend most of your time with. Normally, these folks show up deep in your organization, at your level 5 or deeper in your group.

These folks are easy to identify. They are busy retailing and recruiting. They attend all events. They are plugged in. They ask questions. They call you to give you updates.

A third option is to identify people on your team with leadership potential, the ones with the most potential, and invest some of your time, money and energy turning them into leaders. I believe that the people you develop into leaders will be the most loyal to you and stick around with you the longest, because they appreciate what you did for them.

At the end of the day, you only need one to five key leaders to make a lot of money in this industry. Always keep your eyes and ears open for leaders and people with leadership potential.

So, what you should do?  You should find and develop MLM leaders.  Do both!
