How Do I Know If I should work For Myself?

If you’re reading this, chances are pretty good that you’re considering working for yourself. Either that, or you’re having difficulty finding a good job and working for yourself is looking like a good option. But how do you know if it’s the right thing for you? We’re going to look at the four most important questions you need to ask yourself before deciding whether or not to work for yourself.

1 – Do I have time to work from home?

Thanks to the ever-increasing globalisation of business and the ease with which most of us can access the internet, worlds of possibility have opened for the aspiring at-home worker. Many jobs that traditionally had to be done in an office can now be done from just about anywhere. And it’s not just being able to do it anywhere, but any time. There’s the potential to do work day or night, depending where the clients are. That means, as long as you have time on your hands, you could, in theory, start working for yourself right now – even if you have a full-time job So that’s the first thing to ask – do you have enough time on your hands to do work from home, either full-time or part-time? If the answer is yes, then keep reading!

2 – Can I make enough money doing this work?

Whether you want to ease into self-employment slowly, just earn some extra cash on the side, or be full-time self-employed, knowing whether you can make enough money to suit your needs is important. There are hundreds of fantastic platforms that help connect the self-employed person with clients. Before deciding whether to take on extra work or be self-employed, it helps to look around and see what kinds of opportunities exist.

3 – Do I have the skills to work for myself?

Whatever you do for a living, you have built up the necessary skills to do that job over the years. But what about being self-employed? Do you have the necessary skills to take on working for yourself? That all depends on what you do. There are hundreds of great opportunities in the marketplace for people of all ages, skill levels and professions that don’t need you to have any special skills, or learn anything new.

4 – Why do I want to work for myself?

We know – this really should be the first question, but the reason we put it last is because we don’t want it to be a stumbling block. That said, your reasons for doing anything are very important, and making a life-changing decision like taking on extra work or working for yourself is one of the times you really ought to ask yourself, “why am I doing this?” If your reasons are because you like the idea of taking responsibility for yourself, being able to work on your own terms, and that the potential rewards far outweigh the risks, then you are on the right track. Working for yourself comes with a whole new set of life rules and it’s not a decision to be taken lightly, so if you’re considering it, do yourself a favour and get in touch to find out how we can help. We’re pretty sure you’re going to like what you find.
