Handling the fear of video marketing

To start with, the way to handle the fear of anything is to face the fear head on and just do it.  Don't expect to be great at it in the beginning, but first we have to take that initial step.

I think most people reading this understand that.  Doing it is sometimes a different thing.  Money is emotional, business is emotional, video is emotional.  We have to control our emotions and, if anything, channel those emotions in a positive way to move us forward.

Now, I can only speak for myself.  I am a member of Send Shark and follow Joel Therien.  He and other leaders I have heard all keep saying to make the videos.  Why?  Because people need to get to know the real you.

We all have a presence on social media of some kind.  Very few people don't.  The social media presence isn't always the real person.  Sometimes yes, but many times no.

So, in our email campaigns especially, we need to let people know who we really are.  When we show people a program we are involved in, we are also branding ourselves and asking a question.  We are asking them if they want to do business with us.

These days, a picture is not enough.  A picture can be downloaded from anywhere, and so can video in some cases, but when we make our own video it is much more compelling to believe in.

Now, there is nothing wrong with making an initial video, and editing it over and over as many times as needed until you like what you see.  Is this really what I want others to see?  The editing process will help reduce the anxiety and fear to large degree.

Using our phones, since our phones are so capable, is the best place to start.  Upload them to youtube, since that is free to do.  

In the beginning, you may not get many views.  I am working on that at the moment.  I will probably buy some traffic through fiverr to get these videos off the ground.  I will also post links here.

You don't want to have a nervous laugh in your videos.  I see people doing that.  When you make your videos, just be who you are.  If your personality is to make jokes and cut up, then be you.  If your personality is simply delivering facts and logic, then do that.  I am the latter.  I am a facts and logic guy.  

Be who you are.  Relax and talk to the camera the same way you would talk to a friend trying to show something that will help them.  That is exactly what you are trying to do anyway.

We are in the middle of a Covid-19 pandemic with alot of stuff going on in our world.  People need real solutions.  We actually have those solutions, so we need to let people know that.

Fear holds everybody back.  Fear of people that is.  We aren't really afraid of the camera.  We are afraid of who might see us.  We have to manage that fear.  

Deliver the same valuable information in your videos that you had delivered to you in the videos that you watched.  That's the key.  Valuable information should be passed on to people.  

Most people live in a small world.  That way they stay comfortable.  They don't realize that the bubble they live in could collapse at any time.  They need a backup.  We can give it to them.  

They have to trust us first.  Part of how we establish that trust is through videos, so we can let people know who we really are.
