Think and Grow Accountability

I was sold on mlm back in 1981, when I was still just 15-year old. Back then, it was pretty much about working your family, friends and associates and with lots of charisma and zeal. I loved the idea of multi-level marketing, but I knew that I did not have the temperament to do business in that way, and no amount of well-intended coaching was going to mold my personality into someone that could. But I never thought I wouldn't jump into the mix - eventually. I just needed to figure out a way that worked for who I am.

During my twenty-plus years as a full time home-schooling Mom, I invested a lot in studying business and marketing strategy, surprised to discover it as creatively interesting as painting, sculpting and writing poetry. Then the internet opened and it was easy to see how that would make the whole network marketing thing easier. In theory. But I never really went after it, although I have been using products from an mlm company, for almost 40 years.

Last year, someone let me know about a CBD oil that could help me with some of my well being issues. I decided to try it and was utterly amazed at how well the product worked to alleviate various health issues I have, not least of which, is chronic pain from osteoarthritis. I became a regular customer. I also became curious about their opportunity. They seemed to be doing something differently to make it easier for people to do something with it. I liked that, and I found myself wondering what I could do with it if I started thinking of it as a business with a network marketing model rather than just as a multi-level marketing gig.

As with any down line building company, I knew that my success will rely on me and how well I can support my team members. Having recruited four members right away - one of whom recruited two more, right out the gate, I also got a clear understanding of what an old business mentor meant when she once told me that it is important to recruit 'quality people.' She wasn't suggesting that some people are better than others, but that some people are more READY than others, to do what it takes to cultivate themselves into success magnets. So I have learned this year that it is more important to me to recruit people who are ready to learn and ready to do the things that they will need to learn and do to develop themselves, along with their independent rep business. People who are willing to change how they think in order to change how successful they are. Qualities that I too must constantly seek to enhance in myself. I had to go from being someone who was whimsically hopeful about a great opportunity, to someone who could share my vision with others and qualify whether or not they would be a good fit for what it is I am building - and then teach and support them in a real way, at the ready to meet them where they are at in order to help them move forward. I have found that, as counter-intuitive as it may seem, realizing the extreme amount of accountability that I must take daily, for my own success, is actually more empowering than intimidating - and that is exciting.
