URGENT: Critical industry updates regarding email deliverability

There are crucial industry updates regarding email authentication requirements set by Google and Yahoo, which will be in effect starting February 2024.

These changes are designed to enhance email security, reduce spam, and create a safer email environment for users.

In short, Google and Yahoo are taking proactive steps to enforce proper email authentication and deliverability best practices, making it essential for all email senders to comply with the new requirements.

What does it mean to you?

Nothing, if you’re not using email to grow your business.

But if you are wanting to build a business online, email marketing is a crucial part!

Without following these new regulations, your emails will not reach your subscribers. So you definitely need to implement these actions right away.

The article can seem pretty confusing, but it's essentially saying to ensure your emails continue to be sent and reach the inbox of recipients, do the following:

1. Stop using free email addresses:

To align with upcoming email authentication and spam prevention changes, it’s essential to discontinue the use of personal email accounts from public providers such as "@gmail," "@hotmail," "@yahoo," etc.

Transitioning to a domain that you own is strongly advised for seamless authentication setup and compliance with evolving standards.

2. Send emails through a personalized and authenticated domain:

Authentication of your domain with your systeme.io account will provide DKIM and SPF records for emails you send through systeme.io (see link above for these terms).

3. Create a DMARC record for your domain:

Your sender domain needs to have a DMARC record with at least a "none" policy. This is an additional required step to protect your domain from unauthorized use (see link above for these terms).

4. Always have an active home page for your domain:

Having an active home page for your sender domain will be required, as it increases your domain's legitimacy with recipient servers.

5. Keep spam complaints below 0.3%:

To prevent recipients from being spammed with unwanted or irrelevant messages, Google is enforcing a spam rate threshold requirement.

Starting in February, keeping spam complaints below 0.3% with your Google recipients will be a requirement for all senders.

To keep track of your Google recipients' spam rates, it's essential to implement the Google Postmaster Tool (GPT) along with your email activity.

In Summary

Get a domain and email hosting.

I use Hostinger for both, but there’s Godaddy, Namecheap to name a few. Pick the one that has a price plan best suited for you (I don’t get a commission).

I chose Hostinger because they had good plan for me, $2.99 for the first year included 100 emails addresses and websites and I think it even included a free domain.

Namecheap seemed to have a very reasonable plan for one email address, and I found Godaddy to be the most expensive (I moved from Godaddy to Hostinger).

A domain from any of them will cost you about $15 a year (cheap).

Get creative, ‘succeedwithbob.com’, ‘livegoodwithbob.com’, ‘earnwithvern.com’, etc.

Use your imagination, I pulled those out of my head as I was typing, and if ‘.com’ isn’t available, try ‘.biz’, ‘.info’. There are several to choose from.
