More Than Nail Polish

In February 2020 I discovered exactly how little I had been doing for myself. I was jolted awake by nail polish

It sounds silly, doesn't it? I mean, how in the world can nail polish jolt anyone awake? HOW can nail polish change anything for anyone?

I purchased 4 sets of 100% real nail polish strips to share with my youngest daughter. It was just supposed to be a way for me to connect with her and do something fun. It turned into so much more and I wasn't prepared for what happened.

It took a few weeks for me to take the time to do my nails. Schedules were such that my daughter and I weren't able to sit down together and do our nails. She did hers first and I really liked how they looked. She shared how easy they were to do so I prepared to apply a set before going to bed that night.

I opened the package, followed the instructions and was grateful that everything needed for the application was included in the package. I was also grateful that application didn't require tools of any kind. I just needed to apply them to my fingers like a sticker, trim the end with my fingernail, and be done. I could use a nail file to help with trimming them if necessary. Nothing I've ever used in the past was this easy.

The ease of application wasn't what woke me up. What woke me up was seeing the beautifully polished nails every time I did anything. They became a reminder that I had taken time in prior days to slow down and do something for me. I had cared enough about myself to stop for a brief moment in time to tend to myself. My nails had been neglected for longer than I like to admit. They had become ugly and were proof that I wasn't even doing the little things for myself anymore.

The simple act of applying 100% nail polish strips has catapulted me into taking better care of myself in a variety of ways. From eating better and going to the gym to caring what I look like when I leave my home. These nail polish strips reminded me that I am setting an example for my daughters and the reality was that my example hadn't really been a good one. I had fallen into the trap of putting everyone else's needs before my own; believing that was best for all. I had forgotten that taking care of myself was the only way to fill my cup.

There isn't anyone here to take care of me so if I don't do it, it doesn't get done. That is no longer acceptable to me. It's become my personal goal to make sure every woman knows it's okay to take time for herself. Even if it's just to apply nail polish strips to her fingers and toes.

I joined Color Street in April just as things got really weird around the globe. After spending all these past months learning about this company and being involved with other Independent Stylists, I can say that I've never been involved with a company like this before. I have found my home and I'd love for you to join me. CLICK HERE to find out more.
