How to adapt in the face of obstacles and change in your business?

I feel a little "ranty". I get nervous when I feel this way, because it's usually a sure sign I'm about to piss someone off.

Here's what's bothering me....

If you think you're going to be the next "big" deal....

If you're working towards a dream of business success and financial freedom....

If you're building a business and calling yourself an entrepreneur....

...if you're doing anything related to business...and you are unwilling to adapt in the face of obstacles or change...

You.Are.Screwed.

You should really just quit now and save yourself a ton of time and money and headache.

Notice I said "unwilling" to adapt...

I didn't say can't adapt.

Because people who say they can't, are using the wrong word. They are unwilling.

The only thing 100% guaranteed in this game is that you will forever and constantly be faced with two things...

-Obstacles

-Change

Guaranteed. Nothing else is more guaranteed than those two things.

I have so much evidence to back this up in my business. I see it at Clickfunnels too...

Adapt or die. Adapt or die. Adapt or f***ing die.

Here's my theory on why adaption is so uncomfortable....

Creating new paths in the brain is annoying and frustrating and in an odd way... painful.

Why?

It forces us to concentrate where once before we didn't have to. The tasks are slower.

Adaptation reminds us we're not good at everything we do (certainly not when we start).

Sometimes we get lost, don't know what to do next, or hit a wall. Adaptation brings the feeling of frustration into our lives (and if we're used to only doing what feels good, our brain thinks we're in a do or die moment).

I think it's HILARIOUS (okay not really) when people start to try to adapt or change, and use their FEEEELINGS as the barometer for how it's going.

That's a terrible idea.

It will feel crappy.

Probably for a solid three to four weeks. Or more.

In fact...if you feel uncomfortable, that's probably a sign that it's WORKING. Your brain is working hard to wire new pathways and assimilate the information you need to adapt.

It would be like a guy or girl going to the gym to workout, doing the workout, and then quitting the next day because they took their sore muscles as a sign that they should stop.

"See?! I went to the gym yesterday and now my hamstrings hurt. This is bullsh*t. Clearly that trainer is trying to kill me. I need to stop doing this right now."

So how do you know if you're gonna be the kind of person who's an adapter, or the one who says, "I tried and I didn't like it so I think that's a sign I should stop..."

Look at the last three things that went wrong in your business.

I'll tell you mine...

-My Facebook account got shut down.

-I've been stalling on making a change on a product that will create a TON of new work for me.

-I had a couple of people break their contracts and cost me significant amounts of money.

Next...look at what you did about it.

Don't worry about your initial reaction. Cause everyone is entitled to a freak out session, some chocolate, and ugly tears.

But AFTER that...what did you do?

Did you adapt? Change? Put your head down and just figure out a solution?

Or did you look at the problem as something that happened TO YOU? As something you have to endure? As a sign that you need to run back from where you came?

More importantly, did you push forward, stall out, or retreat?

"Oh this funnel is broken. It didn't work after spending $20 on Facebook ads. I'm going to move onto another funnel because this one is clearly terrible."

"I don't like this course/coach/guru. They aren't giving me what I want. I'm going to find another one." (as the person fails to look back and notice a string of "serial mentorship hopping" where each coach or course fails them somehow and they move on)

"I tried this visibility strategy for a few days but it didn't work that well, and it's really hard, and I should have had clients by now. I'm going to look for another way."

I don't know if it's trendy or what, but this whole do what feels good mantra is the biggest load of crap I've ever heard in my life. It seems like the only industry in which people have accepted that growth isn't a warm and fuzzy, is in the health space. Otherwise...in all other industries like business and life and relationships, our entire culture is using feelings..the most unreliable measurement ever...to decide whether to adapt or change when obstacles hit.

EVERYTHING...and I mean everything...that was EVER worth it...does NOT feel good all the time...especially when you start.

So just stop it. LOL

I told you I was feeling ranty.

A new habit takes 30-60 days...or more.

Next time you're trying to adapt or change, before you make ANY kind of assessment, keep at it for 30-60 days.

Don't let your feelings or discomfort rule the roost. Push back on them. BE IN CHARGE of yourself. Give yourself a solid block of time to incorporate that new thing - funnel, idea, course, whatever...and do what you set your MIND to do and tell your feelings they can feel all they want but you're going to do it anyway.

For some things, you're going to need longer than 60-days. This is the long game. You might need 6 months. A year. Or two.

Just remember...

Everything in life and business that is worth doing...is not going to feel good 100% of the time. Feelings are amazing things, but they are not King and Queen of the castle.

Take back your kingdom, adapt...

or die.

So my question to you is this....

There must be some change or obstacle you're facing. Tell me what it is? Write it out.

Calling out the elephant in the room is HALF the battle.
