I read somewhere that AdWords expert Perry Marshall likes to compare an online business to a "gumball machine".  Why he means by this is if you don't have a system in which you can put money into your "machine", turn the crank, and have a paying customer come rolling out, then you don't have a business.  Sound simplistic doesn't it?  Well, how you do business needs to be a system that is consistent, and profitable, no matter how you describe it.   

What's more, this gumball machine system is the most important part of your business.  It's not your product, not your brand, not your content - as important as these are - it's your gumball machine.  Until you have a system in place that you know if you put money and effort into it, it will reliably produce commission-producing customers, you're not really in business.
