Financial freedom: what is it?
If you ask ten different people that question, you’ll probably get ten different answers or perspectives.
According to Rich Dad, Poor Dad, by Robert Kiyosaki, “Financial freedom is about much more than just having money. It’s the freedom to be who you really are and do what you really want in life.”
Forbes says the first level of financial freedom is, “Not living paycheck to paycheck”.
And if you believe Investopedia.com, “Financial independence is when you can live the quality of life you desire without having to work any longer.”
I prefer to subscribe closest to Robert Kiyosaki’s definition because I believe there’s more to life than just making money.
Yes, you do need money, I been around long enough to know that nothing’s for free.
I also know that the more money you have, the more choices you have. If I have $25 to dine, I have more choices where I dine and what I have as opposed to having just ten bucks.
Some of the definitions that I’ve read stated, “not having to work anymore”.
Well, what does that mean? Not working anymore. What is work?
I think what they actually mean, is not having to be a slave to making money to survive, not living paycheck to paycheck.
I haven’t had a job since 1994, I’ve been self-employed since and one of the greatest things that being self-employment did for me, was give me great flexibility as to when I worked and I never had to miss any of the kids school events.
I came across a fantastic e-book titled, “Financial Freedom for the Rest of Us”, by Aurelian Amacker. I downloaded it and loved it.
