10 Tips for Being a Good MLM Sponsor

In this article, I want to share 10 tips on how to be a good MLM Sponsor. These are helpful things I have learned over the past 16+ years in our industry.  

# 1 Always lead by example. Never ask your team to do something you aren't willing to do yourself. Never stop retailing and recruiting. Inspire people by your actions, not by what you tell them to do. Be someone worth following!

# 2 Plug your people into your company’s training system. Introduce your new team members to other team members, your upline, and the team’s system. Let them know when the training calls and webinars take place. Let them know about upcoming events.

# 3 Be empathetic and understanding. No one wants another boss. Make sure you ask questions and listen to what your new person says. When they share their fear and worries, be compassionate. One of the greatest human needs is to be understood.

# 4 Be confident in yourself. First and foremost, the speed of the leader is the speed of the team. As someone’s sponsor, you need to be confident and have belief in yourself, your company, the products and the industry.

# 5 Have a genuine interest in each person you sponsor. When you sign someone up in the business, you want to invest your time, money and energy in helping them succeed. You must realize that people don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.

# 6 Be accessible. Good sponsors are accessible to their team members. You don’t have to answer your phone and email 24/7, but make sure you respond to all calls and emails within 24 hours. Let people know when you are available. If you set an appointment with someone, be there on time.

# 7 Stick with one company for the long haul. As a sponsor, you need to be the glue for your team. You need to “anchor in” with the business and avoid shiny objects at all costs. Your team should never have to worry about whether or not you will still be in the business one year from now.

# 8 Have some type of game-plan for each person on your team. When you sign someone up in the business, you want to sit down with them and help them establish a game-plan for their business. Help them set goals and come up with a daily mode of operations for their business.

# 9 Help each person you sponsor build the business in a way that makes sense to them. Rather than force your new team members to do what you do, help them identify their talents and abilities and come up with a business building strategy that aligns with their skills.

# 10 Have fun. Be serious about the business, but don’t take yourself too seriously. No one wants another boss. Learn how to laugh and have fun. Encourage your team members to do the same thing.
